I call bs on this bro. Drake is a hipster waaaaaaaaay before he's a hip-hop head, in the sense that the music he chooses to praise (in this case, crap - see: Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, etc.) is chosen with the intent of setting him apart from the crowd (in this case, the crowd being people who don't like to listen to crap), instead of merits like, I dunno, good music. It's shock value, it drives traffic to the website, really interesting stuff.
To put it another way, since this breed of hipster is rather unique to the last decade, there is really absolutely no difference in praising Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka in the 00's than there would have been in praising Vanilla Ice in the 90's.
And before you mention it, yes, I know he praised "Prenuptial Agreement", but that's also easily Stalin's worst album, so moot point.

I dunno man I'm reading his website and the artists I'm seeing are Bun B, Husalah, Sleepy D, DaVinci, a blog on why Drake sucks, Ray Luv, T.I., Tum Tum, Boosie, Oomp Camp and on his Tumblr I see Lil Rue, Jacka, Ampichino. These actually remind me of you lol, just with Gucci and Waka added in. And he writes pretty much exclusively on hip-hop unlike a lot of other Pitchfork writers who are reviewing some indie rock albums as well. He definitely looks like a hip-hop head to me, or at the very least, more of a hip-hop head than any of Pitchfork's other writers.
lol, SoManyShrimp isn't just David Drake, man. In fact, until the most recent revival of the site, I don't think anyone even associated the site with him (that's why I said a while back that it sucked that you were getting into the site so late). Serg posts about all the good music, Drake just writes essays about the importance and cultural implications of the most recent Lil Wayne or Gucci Mane verse.
